Q&A: Chic Comfort Footwear

Q:  I am headed on a tour of Italy in October for a few weeks. How can I pull off looking chic without killing my feet? I haven’t found any comfort footwear I’d be caught dead in.

Pr!vo \"Oso\" SkimmerBy Colleen Geary, fashion stylist and image consultant

A:  For your tour of Italy, you’re going to want a solid pair of shoes that will not only protect your feet but also comfort them from all of the walking you’ll be doing.  But as you know, shoes that are not only comfortable but also attractive are notoriously difficult to find.  Here’s three brands that we recommend checking out:

Sacco Shoes: Known for a combination of comfort and style, Sacco Shoes can be found at their own online store. Sacco Shoes are especially popular amongst New Yorkers–a huge walking town.

Tsubo Shoes: Tsubo combines athletic details and high-tech comfort features with street style for a fresh take on comfort footwear.

Pr!vo Shoes: Though they’re a division of Clarks, Pr!vo doesn’t sell your typical clunky comfort shoe.  You’ll see athletic detailing and bright colors–or more classic leather styles.  Our personal favorite?  The Pr!vo "Oso" Skimmer (pictured).

Q&A: How to Wear a Sports Jacket Without Looking Old

Q:  My sister got me a great brown sports jacket,  but when I wear it with a white collared shirt and blue jeans, it makes me look like a professor instead of a college student. What can I wear it with the jacket to better suit my age?

Herringbone Blazer at the GapBy Colleen Geary, fashion stylist and image consultant

A:  How sweet of your sister to buy you such a useful wardrobe staple!

To make the sports jacket more age appropriate, pair it with a casual top.  The graphic tee plus sports jacket is one of the oldest looks in the book, but there’s a reason why it’s a classic.  For a look that’s a little more "street," you can wear a hoodie with the sports jacket and tee.  To kick the style quotient up a notch, pair it with a deep-buttoned henley or a light weight v-neck sweater.

What colors to wear with brown?  Cream, robin’s egg blue, shades of green, and even orange all pair well with brown.

Enjoy your blazer, and do wear it as you take your sister out to dinner when you’re back at home.

Q&A: What to Wear with a Bomber Jacket

Q:  I bought a lambskin bomber front zip form-fitting leather jacket.  It has been vegetable tanned and is various shades of brown.  I am clueless as to how to pair clothes to create an outfit with this jacket.

GoldSign Astor Leather Bomber JacketBy Colleen Geary, fashion stylist and image consultant

A:  Bomber jackets are versatile and can work with almost any look, from casual to chic. Our best advice is to make the jacket the focal point of whatever outfit you create.  To get you started, here’s three looks you can easily recreate with your bomber jacket:

Everyday Casual: The jacket would look fabulous with a dark wash boot cut jean and a little chocolate brown boot.

Cozy Chic: Wearing the brown bomber jacket with a camel colored sweater dress is perfect for the autumn weather.

Fashion Forward: Pair the jacket with a crisp white blouse and a pair of black cigarette pants.

Omiru Poll Result: Sequins are In… And Out

Omiru Poll Result: Sequins are In and Out

As U Wish Sequin Tube Dress

We asked: Are Sequins In or Out?

You said:  In…and Out.  While 42% of you voted sequins In, 41% voted them Out.

Omiru’s take: Sequins–you either love em or you hate em.  We think they’re fine, so long as they’re worn in moderation.  Sequins are great for adding a bit of oomph to a cocktail dress or an evening gown.  However, sequins seem to feel less appropriate during Fall than they would during Winter.  Says Mimi, "I’m voting sequins in, but only until after the winter holidays."

Style tip?  Shine has a tendency to make you look larger–so wear sequins thoughtfully.  Wear sequins to show off your best features–or take advantage of their amplifying properties to give you some extra volume where you need it most.  Small bustline?  Wear sequins across your chest (pictured).

Next question: Like Sequins, Capes (and Capelets) were all over the runways at Fashion Week.  But would you wear them?  Tell us, are Capes In,
or are they Out? Cast your
vote on the sidebar!
