Living in Calgary where it can get to -40C=-40F, I would suggest leggings, boots that come close to the knees, long sleeves underneath and a gosh darn warm jacket. When you are inside, it is nice. But, if you're walking to/from NOWAY! Where this type of look when it's only 0C or 32F; much warmer.

It's cute, but there's no way I would get away with something like that here in Michigan...most of the time in winter it's too cold even for leggings. Looks like all your cold weather outfits aren't really applicable to the really cold climates...what advice would you have for someone with basically the choice of jeans or sweatpants?

Great ideas, Holly and Stephanie - a long sleeve shirt and/or a cardigan sweater would definitely make this outfit warmer. And yes, Kathy, a sleek turtleneck sweater would add to this outfit.

Sasha - you can wear a pendant-type necklace (shown), layering it over the ruffle (if it's not too voluminous). Otherwise, if the ruffle volume is too much, wear the necklace so that it peeks out from under the ruffle.

Mimi - Totally--this outfit is perfect for your Southern California weather :)

Why would you wear long underwear (I'm assuming that's what you mean by silk undergarments) with a sleeveless dress? If it's cold enough to wear snow boots, gloves & a down vest then it's way too cold to go out with limbs exposed. I'm guessing you must live somewhere it is very hot all year round, lol

a serious question - how do you wear a necklace with that kind of ruffly neckline the dress has? do you layer the necklace over the ruffle or do you wear it under so it sort of peeks through the little notch in the collar?

I just throw on a fitted black cardigan over the dress and black tights. Your arms and legs are covered, but you still see most of the dress.

It seems weird to wear a sleeveless dress with a vest, no tights, gloves, and boots in December - your arms and legs would be freezing and it would look a little odd. Even if you were to wear a long sleeve coat, it'd be kind of silly to wear a coat indoors all day. Maybe leggings and a turtleneck would make it more appropriate.

Love this! Perfect for me in California, where it looks summery outside (sunshine) but can be chilly

I'd start with a long-sleeve shirt. Although "silk undergarments" are mentioned, no long-sleeve shirt is shown. I feel cold just looking at this outfit.
