I love you Trisha, but I think dress shirts and jeans are a fashion faux pas, especially because jeans don’t tend to be very fitted. That combo just looks sloppy to me. I do agree that shirts look a lot better tucked in though. =)

Barry - great ideas! A more visually exciting tie and/or shirt would totally work. Try experimenting with color and/or pattern.

Sal - the zip cardigan is a warm, chic idea. I would love to see a cardigan in an unexpected color, especially if it’s peeking out from under a jacket.

As for whether or not to tuck in the shirt, I would say to go tucked in. But you’ll also want to wear a belt (in the same style as the shoe). Solid basics here, but I’d personally opt for some color as well! All black and white is fairly formal, especially for a first date, and might be perceived as boring and careful. Even a more visually exciting tie would make the outfit have some personality.
