And a hat helps, too. I can't go outside without my wide-brimmed straw hat. Be prepared for unpredictable weather. We have what's called "June Gloom" (and "May Gray") where it can be chilly yet humid with foggy, wet mornings giving way to warm yet gray afternoons. (May and June have the least amount of sunshine all year!)

I woudln't just assume that it will be hot in LA. It depends a great deal on what part of town you will be in (UCLA by the coast versus USC more inland, for example), and actually time of year factors in. June is notoriously overcast (we even have a name for it, June Gloom) and not hot! Also, if you come from a place with humid summers, you will be surprised by how cool it can get at night. Jeans are a must, though, agreed on that!

Don't forget your sunscreen if you're prone to burning. It's hot there.

I graduated from two schools in LA and attended my fair share of graduations, and it was always hot! (Granted, perhaps my grad robes had something to do with it, but it was hot regardless.) Dress in layers (where the top layer is a light jacket or cardi) and you should be fine.
