I'm still not sold on the "caged shoe" or gladiator sandal trend that's really overtaking closets around the world. It just seems like too much all at once and comes across as trying too hard.

And it might work, maybe, for summer evenings but during the day, ugh, I just feel like those shoes are going to melt on feet!

Sorry about that Jeremy. We're also a fan of J Crew's relaxed fit lightweight chino, and they're on sale for $49.50 (originally $69.50). Here's the link: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/MensBrowse/Men_Shop_By_Category/pants/lightweightchino/PRDOVR~92803/92803.jsp.

When I follow the link to american eagle for the pants they are not available. BUMMER!! Can you suggest an alternative?

Thanks much,

Yup, that can be confusing. Khaki is both a color and a type of fabric - here, we're referring to the fabric, not the sand-like color ordinarily associated with it. Chinos are similar to Khaki pants, but they're slightly dressier.

The outfit does work with brown lace-up shoes as well. Nice call out, Jay!

Cheers,
Trisha

I really like this outfit, apart from the shoes. I love plaid and can really see myself wearing this particular shirt, and I love the dark khakis... although the definition of khakis has me confused. Are they the same as chinos?
I think I'd replace the boat shoes with some brown lace-ups.
