March 2012 Lookbook: How to Wear a Pajama Top

Omiru's March 2012 Lookbook: How to Wear the Pajama Top
This look is part of Omiru’s March 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece March 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Pajama tops are no longer just for bedtime.  But how to wear them when you’re not climbing into bed?  Embrace their lounginess with an equally effortless silhouette, pairing them with something drapey on the bottom.  Not a fan of skirts?  Pajama tops also look lovely paired with shorts for a big over small look.

1. Start with a tank paired with a pleated skirt for a long, lean look.
2. Layer on your pajama top, whose silhouette echoes the drape of the silky pleated skirt.  We love how the pajama top over the drapey skirt makes for an effortlessly lean look.
3. Finish off the look with accessories in complementary colors - a pair of amber glasses, a brown resin necklace, a moss and teal tote, and a pair of sand leather sandals.

Leighton Tuxedo Jacket

leighton-tuxedo-jacket_031212

We believe that every woman should have a tuxedo jacket in her closet.  It may not be as classic as the basic black or navy blazer, but the tuxedo jacket instantly elevates a look - and a white blazer pairs perfectly with spring florals and brights
.  What we love about this particular jacket is the sleek silhouette with the crisp lapels - it’s definitely a woman’s jacket, even though it’s borrowed from the boys.  Worth the investment.

March 2012 Lookbook: Elevate Your Look with Jet Black Accessories

Omiru's March 2012 Lookbook: Black and Yellow
This look is part of Omiru’s March 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece March 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Color theory 101 says that opposite colors attract, but it doesn’t take theory to know that black effortlessly elevates a look.  We took a playful look based upon a purple and yellow color pairing, and we instantly made it more glamourous with a few choice accessories in noir.

1. Start building the look with a pair of colors opposite each other on the color wheel: a bright yellow pair of denim pants paired with a lilac purple oxford shirt.
2. Colorblocking is especially lovely when done subtly - so slip on a grey cropped sweater (the echoed colorblocking at the hem - an extra plus).  That way, your lilac purple collar will pop out from the grey sweater, giving the look just a touch of purple.
3. Finish off the look with three key accessories in black - a statement necklace with a ribbon tie (to echo the closure on the sweater), a structured shopper bag, and a pair of colorblocked ankle booties.

Aztec Print Scarf

aztec-print-scarf_031212

Bold colors and Aztec prints - you get two trends for the price of one with this stunning scarf.  With warm reds and browns and cool blues, this scarf would look lovely paired with either warm or cool colors -
making it the perfect pick me up to any daytime outfit, from a simple tee and jeans to a spring dress.

March 2012 Lookbook: Sea the Blue

Omiru's March 2012 Lookbook: Sea Blue
This look is part of Omiru’s March 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece March 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Refresh your spring wardrobe with a look inspired by the sea.  For most of us, it’s still far too early to hit the beach, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t capture the joie de vivre of a trip to the seaside in a crisply casual urban look.

1. Start your fantasy journey to the sea with a gorgeous tie-neck blouse paired over a seafoam skinny jean.  Let the blouse float over your jeans for a laid-back look.
2. Bundle up with a navy sweater layered under a royal blue long blazer.
3. Accessorize in natural colors - greens, turquoises, and browns.  We loved the look of this aqua bowler with the blues of the outfit.  If you want to layer on the jewelry, try a geometric colorblocked cuff.  No necklaces, please, as jewelry would visually compete with the tie neckline on the blouse.
4. Slip on a pair of aqua accented heels for a going-out look - or try an espadrille for a more casual look.

Cross Front Longline Cami

cross-front-cami_030812

You can’t ever have enough simple camis - and this is one that we’ll be wearing with denim cutoffs and gladiator sandals come summer.  What we love about this extra long cami is threefold:
(1) Its shape is extremely flattering and works with, not against, your personal architecture.
(2) The cami is long enough to be a dress…when temperatures warm up, that is.
(3) The mesh cross, while noticeable in the image, is much more subtle in real life. So - you get a bit of detail without it making too much of a statement.

March 2012 Lookbook: Echoes of Red

Omiru's March 2012 Lookbook: Echoes of Red
This look is part of Omiru’s March 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece March 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

What can we say - we love the color red.  It’s the color of love (apropos, no?), of power, of passion.  It’s stunning in small doses - but we’re not afraid to punch up a look by anchoring it in red.  The trick to wearing such a strong color is to center your outfit with it - but then echo the color in small doses elsewhere in the look.

1. Start with the most basic of foundations - a white blouse over a pair of jeans.  Of course, our white blouse and jeans each have a twist.  The white blouse features a beautiful tie-neck detail, and the jeans are constructed of a deep brown fabric with a shine coating.
2. Anchor the look with your signature piece - a cropped red jacket, featuring shades of blue and grey for contrast.
3. The red doesn’t stop there.  Echo the red in your shoes (note the blood red stacked heel) and your sunglasses (classic Wayfarers get a punchy update).  But keep your handbag neutral - red here would look a little too matchy-matchy.

Galaxy Choker Necklace

galaxy-choker_030512

This season, it’s all about the collar.  Detachable collars, metal tipped collars, contrast collars, and DIY collars.  But the emphasis on the collarbone doesn’t need to stop there - we’re loving choker necklaces to keep the focus near your face.  Sleek and sensual, this silver choker necklace not-so-subtly draws attention to your face (and your décolletage).  Wear it with simple silhouettes in solid colors for best effect - don’t make it compete with loud patterns and textures.

March 2012 Lookbook: A Study in Color

Omiru's March 2012 Lookbook: A Study in Color
This look is part of Omiru’s March 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece March 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

How many colors can you wear without looking color schizophrenic?  We managed to work with nine (black, red, royal blue, mustard, white, orange, teal, and purple) in a single look that is cohesive in its singular focus on color.  This study in color is accented by the schoolgirl pleated skirt and the geek chic glasses, but this look will take you anywhere but the library.

1. Start with a colorful striped sweater, paired with a pleated skirt.  Notice how the brights in sweater are made even more vibrant by the springy green skirt.
2. Royal blue heels provide a solid foundation for the look and pick up on the blue in the sweater.
3. Add a bit more color with your handbag - a colorblocked purse in orange, purple, and teal extends the look even further on the color wheel.
PS: Geek chic classes - optional, but we love the look.

DHOBA Handmade Earrings

dhoba-earrings-a-peace-treaty_030512

With this stunning pair of earrings from A Peace Treaty, you can do good while looking good.  We’re loving this pair of handmade earrings for their fierce beauty - the delicate dangling goldplated brass chains are tipped by spikes for a look that’s both hard and soft.

What’s special about A Peace Treaty?  Each season, the designers travel to a region to seek out local village artisans to create unique, limited edition accessories.  Not only does A Peace Treaty support the local craftspeople with employment opportunities, but they also donate to international aid organizations to support reconstruction efforts in areas of socio-political strife.

$150  at A Peace Treaty.
