You Said: No to Faux Fur Vests

luscious-faux-fur-vest_101109We asked: Would you wear Faux Fur Vests?

You said:  No to Faux Fur Vests, with a 77% to 23% vote.

Style tip? As the perfect layering piece, the Vest is a key item for Fall.  Shaggy, faux fur vests, however, aren’t for everyone.  They’re great for adding a punch of texture to your look, but they also add visual weight.  If you dare to wear the faux fur vest, pair it over a fitted top with high armholes for the sleekest look.  On the bottom, try another fitted piece - such as straight or skinny jeans, or a slim fitting skirt.  Finish off the look with a pair of tall boots or heels so as to visually elongate your legs.

Next question: The Cage Heel is a hot catwalk trend that has made its way from the runway into real stores.  But what do you think about these uber-strappy shoes?  Tell us, would you wear Cage Heels?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

How to Wear a Biker Jacket Elegantly

How to Wear a Biker Jacket
Shop the Look (clockwise, from top): Peel Out Biker Jacket | $38.90 at Heritage 1981, Librarian Tie Neck Cardigan | $44.99 at Ruche,
Leather Lady Lock Clutch | $82.07 at ASOS, Monroe Suedette Boot | $34.80 at Heritage 1981, AE Skinny Cord in Grey Dust | $39.50 at American Eagle.  See more information about this look.

Biker jackets evoke imagery of black leather, hard edges, and sharp studs.  But you don’t have to go over the edge to look sharp in a biker jacket.  The keys to wearing a biker jacket elegantly are twofold: (1) pick the right jacket (sleek, minimal), and (2) dress up the rest of the look with sophisticated pieces with chic details.  Here’s how to wear a biker jacket elegantly:

1.  Start with a simple, sophisticated base: grey cords (or grey jeans) and a tie-neck knit top.  We love the mix of muted colors between these two pieces.
2.  Layer on the elegant biker jacket.  Note the subtle cream color, the slim fit, and the understated detailing.
3.  Finish off the look with standout accessories: a pair of tall grey boots to tuck your grey cords into (the combo creates a long, lean look) and a cheery bright yellow clutch for a burst of color.

How to Wear Brightly Colored Pants

How to Wear Colored Pants
Shop the Look (clockwise, from top): Boudoir Lace Trim Cami | $12.90 at Forever 21, Maddie Faux Leather Tote | $29.80 at Forever 21, Belted Ankle Boots | $26.80 at Forever 21, Real Straight Cords | $54.50 at Gap, Granola Knitted Turtleneck Cardigan | $36.99 at Ruche.  See more information about this look.

What’s the key to wearing brightly colored pants?  Pair them with a top in a complementary color - and then fill out the rest of the outfit with neutrals.  That way, you build the outfit around the pants and work them seamlessly into your look. Here’s how to wear brightly colored pants:

1.  Start with a pair of brightly colored pants.  We chose a pair of mustard cords to build the look around.
2.  Choose a top in a complementary color.  This lace trim camisole in dusty blue pairs beautifully with the mustard cords.
3.  Finish off the outfit with neutral pieces and accessories: a cream colored turtleneck cardigan (which also adds texture), and a buckled handbag and flat boots in shades of brown.

You Said: Yes to Motorcycle Jackets

omiru-poll-result-motorcycle-jacket_100309

plaid-wool-moto-jacket_100309We asked: Would you wear Motorcycle Jackets?

You said:  Yes to Motorcycle Jackets, with a 81% to 19% vote.

Style tip? Motorcycle Jackets are fun and edgy - and they’re the perfect item to pair with anything from a summer sundress to a white tee and jeans.  However, the traditional black leather motorcycle jacket isn’t the only style available these days.  We love the motorcycle jacket silhouette in other fabrics, patterns, and colors.  Case in point?  This versatile plaid motorcycle jacket, which gives you two key Fall trends in one.

Next question: Shaggy, faux fur vests are a hot layering piece for Fall, as they add a burst of texture to your look.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear a Faux Fur Vest?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

From Simple to Stunning: Details Make the Difference

From Simple to Stunning: Details Make the Difference
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

How do you turn a simple outfit into something extraordinary?  It’s all in the details.  We love basics with a twist - the white button down with tuxedo pleats, the coat with oversized buttons, the pants adorned with an oversized bow.  The beauty of these pieces is that they’re simple and understated - yet they pack a fashion punch, especially when combined.  Here’s how to get a stunning look from these basics with a twist:

1.  Start with a tuxedo pleated white button down shirt.  Pair the tuxedo shirt with a pair of drapey trousers adorned with a bow.
2.  Layer on a vest.  We love that the black sweatervest features a variety of textures - from the simple knit to the lace detailing.
3.  On top, pull on an Audrey Hepburn-esque 3/4 length coat.  We love the scalloped detailing and the oversized, contrast buttons.
4.  Finish off the look with a pair of ankle boots, adorned with zig zag detailing and a buckle at the ankle.

What are your favorite fashion details?  Bows?  Oversized buttons?  Pleats?  Share your style with us in the comments!

Get the Rugged and Refined Look for Fall

Rugged and Refined for Fall
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

Love the gamine look but don’t want to look like a schoolgirl?  Get the look of rugged elegance by combining the girly, feminine separates with pieces that are a little rough around the edges.  We love the contrast in textures, styles, and silhouette.  Here’s how to get the rugged and refined look for Fall:

1. Start with a sophisticated base: a tailored blouse (don’t you love the tuxedo pleating?) and a pleated skirt.  The base is prim and proper.
2.  Layer on an outdoorsy parka to add a touch of ruggedness to the refined base layer.  We love the mix of colors (the army green with the sailor white and navy) and the contrast in detailing (oversized pockets and cord detailing vs. tuxedo pleats).
3.  Finish off the look with accessories that blend the sophisticated and the rugged: studded tall flat boots and a serious leather satchel.

How to Wear Flannel Plaid Without Looking Like a Lumberjack

How to Wear Flannel Plaid Without Looking Like a Lumberjack
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

Fall is here, and it’s time to break out your flannel plaid shirts.  But how do you wear them without looking like a lumberjack?  The key is fit.  Big, blousy flannel plaid shirts scream "timber!"  But if you choose a flannel plaid in a slim cut style, you can turn a potentially woodsy look into something more urban. Here’s how to wear flannel plaid without looking like a lumberjack:

1.  Start with your flannel plaid shirt and a pair of casual pants.  We like the mix of textures when you combine worn in cords with your flannel plaid.
2.  When it gets cold, layer on a hoodie.  We love the contrast trims on this casual sweatshirt.  Style tip?  Leave the hoodie’s top two buttons unbuttoned so that the flannel plaid will shine through.
3.  Finish the look off with a casual boot.  The leather and tweed really add to the textures in the look.
