May 2012 Lookbook: How to Wear Spring Florals

Omiru's May 2012 Lookbook: Spring Greens
This look is part of Omiru’s May 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece May 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

May’s flowers are in bloom - and so is our floral inspired wardrobe.  Spring 2012’s florals are less frilly and feminine - and are more sophisticated than seen in previous seasons.  Great news for those of us who aren’t girly girls - we can still wear these pretty prints.  The trick is to pair them with bold colors on simple silhouettes - the resulting look is equal parts playful and elegant, just like you.

1. Start with a floral print top grounded by a bold green pleated skirt.
2. What goes with green?  A sunny yellow, of course.  Slip on a fitted jacket to emphasize your nipped in waistline.
3. Finish off the look with accessories in shades of green - a mint colored heel and a turquoise handbag.  For your shades, mix it up - we chose a bright fire engine red to give the look some extra pep.

Tie-Dye Cutoff Shorts

sam-shorts_050112

This summer, we’ll be rocking cutoff shorts once again.  But this time around, instead of choosing a standard denim wash, we’ll be looking for something with a little more personality.  The tie-dye pattern gives these cutoff shorts that spark - and they look fantastic with the army of bright shirts we’re going to be sporting this summer.  Want another option?  Topshop has a similar pair of tie-dye shorts for $64.

$48  at Need Supply.

Floral Print Trousers

floral-print-trousers_050112

Yes, that’s right.  May florals have blossomed on dresses, tops, skirts…and now pants.  Colored pants was the big story w/r/t bottoms this spring, but now that we have that trend covered, we’re moving to another eye-catching trend that’s taking root: floral print pants.  They’re a challenging pant to wear for sure, but they’re sure to turn heads.  Wear them with a solid colored top to avoid clashing - but don’t be afraid to add a bit of texture.

$59.90  at Zara.

April 2012 Lookbook: Urbane Gladiator

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: Urbane Gladiator
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Some days just feel like an uphill battle.  When you need to gear up to face a day like this, why not slip on a pair of gladiator sandals?  While they’re traditionally an aggressive looking shoe, you can give the look more polished with a sophisticated blend of sharp silhouettes and sweet accessories.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a pair of gladiator sandals.  Studs are optional, depending on how much attention you want to draw to your feet.
2. Your outfit itself should be sophisticated with an aggressive edge.  Try a colorblocked blouse paired with a knee length pair of leather shorts.

3. Finish off the look with a pair of sunny accessories to make the look more friendly - an eyecatching bundle of baubles around your neck, and a a bright yellow top handle leather tote.

April 2012 Lookbook: I Dream in Color

We’re big believers that style and comfort aren’t mutually exclusive.  And as the pajama top has emerged from loungewear to daywear, we’re psyched to be able to wear it all day long.  The trick to getting the look right is to pair your pajamas with sophisticated daywear separates.  The idea is to elevate the pajama top into your day wardrobe; you don’t want to look like you accidentally left the house in your PJs.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a sophisticated foundation: a simple striped shell paired with a floaty chiffon skirt.
2. The dream of wearing your PJs outside has finally come true - slip on your silk pajama top for a cozy layered look.
3. The pajama top adds playfulness to the look, so build on this sense of fun with accessories in bright colors: stacked bangles, a colorblocked clutch, and a pair of sandals accented in a bright yellow.  Finish off the look with a fedora hat to block the sun - and to add drama to the outfit.

April 2012 Lookbook: Flirty Florals

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: Flirty Florals
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Spring/Summer 2012’s florals are no wallflowers - their very presence imbues vibrancy into your look.  What to wear with these bright florals?  Solids in either bright or neutral tones are a safe bet - but we encourage you, if you dare, to pair pattern with pattern.  We married these vibrant florals with a pair of girly polka dotted pieces for a look that’s fresh and flirty.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with your foundation of polka dots.  We matched a flouncy navy miniskirt with a sleeveless blouse with a scalloped peter pan collar for a playful look.
2. Juxtaposed against the spotted foundation, the floral motorcycle jacket takes center stage, adding a punch of pattern and color.

3. Finish off the look with statement accessories - a pair of red sunglasses that echoes the red top-handle bag, and a pair of wedge heels featuring a lacy cutout detail.

Bold Floral Tunic Dress

Get the look of spring’s bold florals with this flowy tunic dress.  What we love about it is the bold colors and the hyper-realist print…reminiscent of the work of British designer Mary Katrantzou.  Extra bonus?  At this price, it’s not just easy to wear - it’s also easy on the wallet.

April 2012 Lookbook: Urban Playground

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: Urban Playground
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

We’re dreaming of the carefree days of childhood - of playground games, of laughter and fun, of adventure in the ordinary.  But even if your spring days are destined to be spent in a metropolis, you need not lose the playfulness in your style. For the urban playground, keep the simple silhouettes - updating them with more sophisticated fabrics, patterns, and colors.  Also keep your sense of serendipity and wonder - which will help you navigate the urban playground just as well as you ruled the neighborhood playground way back when.

1. Start with a chic but comfortable foundation: an oversized cropped tee paired with a buttery pair of knee length leather shorts.  The cropped tee works with the high rise on the short and calls attention to the leg-lengthening silhouette.
2. Enough black and white with this foundation - it’s time to add color!  Toss on a cardigan in a bright yellow to offset the black and white of the tee and shorts.  Bonus points for toting around a handbag in a complementary bright color - notice how the turquoise bag adds an extra dimension to the yellow, black, and white of the look.
3. Finish off the look with accessories with an edge - a pair of studded gladiator sandals, a leather wrap bracelet with a skull motif, and a retro chic pair of sunglasses.

What do you wear to navigate the urban playground?
