What to Wear to Graduation

What to Wear to Graduation
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

It’s that time of the year - time for graduations and new beginnings.  And accordingly, we’ve gotten a number of questions from women all around the country about what to wear to the graduation ceremony.  In a nutshell, bright colors, dresses, and low heels are all occasion-appropriate.  Here’s how to put these elements together for a gorgeous graduation outfit:

1.  Build your outfit around a gorgeous floral dress.  The sexy strapless style is counterbalanced by the sophisticated floral pattern.
2.  In case you’re going to be in an air conditioned area, you’ll want a cardigan sweater for layering.  Choose a sweater in a bright color, one that complements the colors in the dress.
3.  Finish off the outfit with a pair of low heels (in case you’ll have to do a lot of walking) and a pretty clutch purse.

You Said: Yes to Green

omiru-poll-result-green_050309

striped-crew-neck-sweater_050309We asked: Would you wear The Color Green?

You said:  Yes to The Color Green, with a 94% to 6% vote.

Style tip? What better color is there to welcome Spring than the color Green?  It’s fresh, clean, and it manages to be cheerful without the overt brightness of yellow, orange, or red.  We’re loving Green paired with Brown - or even Grey.  The trick is to let the green shine by pairing it with colors that aren’t quite as bright.

Next question: One of the big handbag trends for Spring is the Long Strap Handbag, which you can wear cross-body.  But what do you think?  Would you wear the Long Strap Handbag?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Spring Summer Fashion Formula #6: Mix Green with Brown

Spring Summer Fashion Formula #6
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

Spring is in the air, and so is Spring Green.  As a color combination, green and brown were born to be together.  Just ask Mother Nature.  Make this natural color combination the centerpiece of your outfit.  Here’s how to get the look:

1.  Start with a gorgeous blouse in spring green.  The bright color will draw attention up towards your face.
2.  Slip on a pair of jeans and a tailored hip-length blazer in a neutral color.
3.  Sling a rich brown bag over your shoulder to complement the beautiful spring green blouse.
4.  Finish off the outfit with a pair of colorful flats.  We’re digging the playful combination of blue and yellow, the two colors surrounding green on the color wheel.

Mens Spring Summer Fashion Formula #4: Add Visual Texture with a Pattern

Mens Spring Summer Fashion Formula #4
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

Sure, solids are easy to wear, but we love breaking up blocks of solid color with patterns.  Our favorite pattern to play with?  Thin stripes, which feature a breezy nautical feel while remaining completely polished.  Here’s how to add visual texture to an outfit of mostly solids:

1.  Start with your basic solids: a lightweight hoodie in crisp white and a pair of grey denim jeans.
2.  Add visual texture with a polished horizontal striped tee.  Note how the black and white complement the soft white and grey tones in the rest of the outfit.
3.  Finish off the look with a neutral colored messenger bag and a pair of retro-inspired sport sneakers.  We’re digging the light blue sneakers juxtaposed against the tan of the bag.

Wear to Work: A Fresh Take on the Classic Sweater over Collared Shirt Combination

Wear to Work
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

Wearing a cardigan over a collared, button-down shirt at work is nothing groundbreaking, but you can easily give the look a fresh feel.  Just mix and match patterns - and get creative with proportion.  Here’s how to get a fresh take on the classic cardigan over button-down shirt look for work:

1.  Start with a fitted striped collared, button-down shirt and a pair of well-cut trousers.
2.  Add a brightly colored sweater over the striped shirt.  Note how the yellow, organic pattern of the sweater contrasts with the blue and white linear pattern on the shirt.  Plus, the half sleeves on the sweater allow the striped shirt to peek out from underneath.
3.  Accessorize with a pair of feminine pumps and a slouchy bag.  And to give the look a more youthful feel, regardless of your age, you can try tossing on a knit cap.

You Said: Yes to Oversized Bags

jessica-simpson-hyde-large-satchel_042609We asked: Would you wear Oversized Bags?

You said:  Yes to Oversized Bags, with a 74% to 26% vote.

Style tip? An oversized bag is a simple yet bold way to accessorize an outfit.  We love going all out with oversized bags with bright colors - or eyecatching patterns.  But if you’re looking for a less daring look, you can still try an oversized bag with interesting hardware or classic lines.

Next question: We’ve always been a fan of the color Green, and it’s becoming a full fledged color trend for Spring.  But what do you think?  Would you wear the color Green?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Ageless Style: How to Wear a Leather Jacket

Ageless Style
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

No matter what your age, you can pull off the leather jacket look with style and grace.  Simply choose a leather jacket in a classic shape and pair it with equally sophisticated pieces.  Here’s how to get an ageless look with a leather jacket:

1.  Start with a drapey knit top with a classic cowl neckline and a pair of fresh white jeans.
2.  Add the leather jacket - try a bomber style (as shown) or a more sophisticated blazer style jacket.  Note how the warm brown of the jacket really brings out the freshness of the blue and white combination.
3.  Finish off the outfit with classic-with-a-twist accessories: a folk patterned scarf (that picks up the colors in the outfit), a slouchy zigzag print handbag, and a pair of metallic driving mocs.

Spring Summer Fashion Formula #5: Be Bold with Accessories (Especially at Work)

Spring Summer Fashion Formula #5
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

Your job may require you to limit your fashion choices, but you can still express your personal style.  You just need to be creative about how you do it.  Here, we show you how to dress up a basic foundation outfit with statement accessories:

1. Start with conservative foundations: a drapey knit blouse and a pair of twill trouser pants.
2.  Add a tailored, belted trench to look instantly pulled together.
3.  Against the backdrop of conservative blacks, greys, and blues, be bold with your accessories.  Here, we experimented with both color and pattern.  The herringbone tote jazzes up the solids, while the cherry red shoes add a zing to the otherwise dark outfit.

Mens Q&A: Three Ways to Wear White Jeans

Q: White jeans for men seems to be kind of on-trend right now, and I’m just wondering how you suggest wearing them.

A: You’re completely right - white jeans is a fresh look for men, and while white jeans are tough to keep clean, the effort can pay off in spades.  Here’s three simple ways to work white jeans into your wardrobe:

Option 1: White Jeans + Pullover Sweater

Feeling the love for this outfit?  Here’s more information about it.

Go simple by pairing your white jeans with a simple pullover sweater.  You can go with deep, vibrant colors like the royal blue shown - or try lighter colors like heather grey or baby blue for a quietly sophisticated look.

Option 2: White Jeans + Bold Polo Shirt

How to Wear White Jeans #2
Feeling the love for this outfit?  Here’s more information about it.

For casual days, you can look instantly pulled together in a striped polo shirt and a crisp white pair of jeans.  To polish off the look (but at the same time keeping it casual), add a belt and a pair of tailored sneakers.

Option 3: White Jeans + Collared Shirt + Cardigan Sweater

How To Wear White Jeans #1
Feeling the love for this outfit?  Here’s more information about it.

For effortless elegance, pair your white denim with a well fitted collared button-down shirt - and then layer on a textured sweater.  We’re digging the look of a textured shawl collared cardigan against the woven button-down shirt - plus the interplay of the grey, the pinkish red and white stripes, and the white jeans.  Finish off the look with a belt and a pair of driving mocs.

Last thoughts?  Do be meticulous about keeping your white jeans spotless.  Nothing ruins the white jeans look faster than a smudge or a spot.
