Trendscape | Tassel-free Loafers

April 19th, 2006

A staple of almost every man’s wardrobe is the loafer.  Along with their distant cousin, the moccasin, loafers are a hassle-free, versatile piece of footwear suitable for both a casual day in the city and a grinding day at work.  Still, there is always room for modernization of the classic slip-on.

Our recommendation? Bypass those “grandfather tassels” that have become synonymous with the loafer and go for a more contemporary design.  Still stuck on tassels?  Try something along the lines of the updated tassels on the Paul Smith design.

Oh God, please stop the square toe madness. Those ben shermans are hideous. Charles Tyrwhitt has a nice selection of round toe shoes, and I can personally recommend these:

Thanks for the comment…I agree with the square toe comment seeing as though I said it was a trend to lose:

Yes, the Ben Shermans may be a bit “hideous” as you say, but I wanted to put variety into the mix because there are people out there who actually still dig the square toe. Luckily, these aren’t as boxy as some of those other shoes out there…plus they are reasonably priced. There are other non-squares on the list, so keep that in mind. Thanks again for the comment.
