Omiru Poll Result: Ballet Flats are IN!

Sam Edelman Celine Ballet FlatWe asked: Are Ballet Flats In or Out?

You said:  Totally In.  Ballet Flats were declared "In" by an impressive 88%.

Omiru’s take:
What’s not to love about these versatile, easy-to-wear shoes?  They’re equally at home paired with a flowy spring dress on the weekend as they are with a smart cardigan and skirt at work.  It’s easy to slip a pair of black ballet flats into your shoe closet.  But maybe it’s too easy.  In the spirit of expanding your style horizons, we challenge you to step outside of your shoe comfort zone and pick up a pair of ballet flats in an unexpected color.  Bright yellowCobalt blue?  A cool seafoam, perhaps?

Next Question: Dresses are In for Spring, but what do you think about the Minidress?  Tell us, are Minidresses In, or are they Out?  Cast your vote on
the sidebar!

I am glad to see the result! I mean, ballet flats are absolutely still IN. I can’t even see the end (hopefully never) for this style since they go with almost everything, and, moreover, they are sooooo comfortable. love them!

I hope they don’t go out of style for a looooong time. They’re so functional! I couldn’t live without them…

er…Seafoam? I associate that color with horrid red-oranges and other grandma colors. No thanks.

I love ballet flats- they’re so chic! The functionality is definately a bonus! These are my current obsession, from Easy Spirit in leopard- the trendy print sets off a simple summer dress- I’d wear these with everything!

Couldn’t agree more—ballet flats are as versatile and functional as they are stylish!

Khatmandu–sorry about the seafoam. We’ll have to agree to disagree :)

I always think that flats look cute on other people. I however feel like I am ten in them. I am in my thirties. Round toes make my feet look huge and my chunky legs look even chunkier. Any suggestions on sofisticated adult flats? I may convert.
PS. I love this site! Especially since you show affordable suggestions like Target etc.

    Hi Kristin,

Thanks for the Omiru love! Here’s three suggestions for sophisticated adult flats:

Me Too “Niomi” Flat | $78.95 at Nordstrom
    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2911490/
The square buckle is all business.

BCBGirls “Cree” Flat | $88.95 at Nordstrom
    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2920126/
The moc-toe makes this flat less girly, and we love the buckle detailing on the toe box.

Bruno Magli “Florita” Flat | $285 at Nordstrom
    http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2917746/
Clean lines and a hint of ethnic style make this flat a standout.

    Hope that helps, Kristin!

    Cheers,
    Trisha

[…] We asked: Are Minidresses In or Out?You said:  Overwhelmingly, In–with a 70% majority.Omiru’s take: Dresses (and Ballet Flats) are the IT Items for Spring–so your enthusiasm over minidresses isn’t a huge surprise.  For those of you who can pull off the mini length, there’s nothing more refreshing than pairing the dress with a pair of kitten heels or cute flats.  (Style Tip: Higher heels and a minidress can be overkill.)  But the rest of us don’t have to miss out on this trend.  Try wearing your minidress with a pair of tights (Style Tip: Darker tights visually slim your legs.)–or even a pair of pants.  Next Question: Back in April 2006, we asked you what you thought of Skinny Jeans (you said In, but barely). Now, a year later, we’re asking you again.   Tell us, are Skinny Jeans In, or are they Out?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!Pictured: Velvet by Graham & Spencer ‘Laralee’ Swing Dress | $98 at Nordstrom. Hi Kristin,
I think ballet flats are for anyone who wants style, comfort, and a little bit of cuteness. With shorts, skinny jeans, or tights. It all works if you’re having fun. Don’t put yourself into a fashion box. Live and take risks. It’s very freeing. I love my flats and I’m over 50.

“Don’t put yourself in a fashion box. Live and take risks.” — excellent advice, and well put, Chuck!

Thanks Trisha. When you think about it the fashion do’s and don’ts are always changing and they are changed by people who don’t pay any attention to the fashion do’s and don’ts.
