Mens Ready Made Outfit: Date Night Style

Date Night
Feeling the love for this set?  Here’s more information about it.

Guys, date night is a time to outfit yourself in the clothes that make you feel like a million dollars. Whether you’re going to a gala social event or just grabbing dinner and a movie, it’s time to dress up.  After all, when you need to impress, it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed.  We’ve got you covered.  Here’s a simple fashion formula that’s designed to sweep your date off her feet:

1.  Start with a well-fitted dress shirt in solids or patterns.  This blue striped shirt is a safe option, but feel free to experiment with color and pattern.
2.  Wear a tie.  This simple piece of fabric will elevate everything else you wear.
3.  Depending on where you’re going, you may be able to sport a pair of (dark rinse) jeans.  But if the event is more formal, switch out the denim for a pair of dark trouser pants.
4.  If you want to stand out from the pack (and get some extra style points), skip the traditional blazer in favor of a tailored 3/4 length overcoat.
5.  Shine your oxford dress shoes and slip them on.  Bonus points?  Bring a beautiful bouquet of flowers for your date.

Guys, what’s your go-to date outfit?  Share your style with us in the comments!

Solid basics here, but I’d personally opt for some color as well! All black and white is fairly formal, especially for a first date, and might be perceived as boring and careful. Even a more visually exciting tie would make the outfit have some personality.

Dashing perfection. In winter, my husband tends to skip the tie, and throw on a zip-cardigan over his button-down. Chic AND warm!

I know people go both ways on this, but do you tuck in the shirt or not?

Tie + Dress shirt + Jeans = Hot!

    Way to go.

The flowers add a nice touch, too!

Lucky shirt + Blazer + Designer Jeans. Accessorize with flowers or chocolate… winner!

Barry – great ideas! A more visually exciting tie and/or shirt would totally work. Try experimenting with color and/or pattern.

Sal – the zip cardigan is a warm, chic idea. I would love to see a cardigan in an unexpected color, especially if it’s peeking out from under a jacket.

As for whether or not to tuck in the shirt, I would say to go tucked in. But you’ll also want to wear a belt (in the same style as the shoe). One of our earliest posts (from 2005!) discusses how to match shoes to a belt: http://www.omiru.com/index.php/2005/04/29/qa-the-shoe-belt-connection-for-men/. Hope that helps!

I love you Trisha, but I think dress shirts and jeans are a fashion faux pas, especially because jeans don’t tend to be very fitted. That combo just looks sloppy to me. I do agree that shirts look a lot better tucked in though. =)
