It’s no secret that we’re fans of J Crew’s classic American style.  We’ve reviewed their Fall 2009 collection and edited it down to the staples that you’ll be reaching for over and over again.  Here’s our six favorite picks from J Crew’s Fall 2009 menswear collection:

How to wear it? The pattern of the season, tartan plaid, works great under a fitted cardigan and dark rinse jeans.

How to wear it? Take a break from your standard blue jean, and try these inky black jeans.  Best paired with vibrant colors, like this bluish purple.

Great selection! I can vouch for the fatigue jacket. Bought mine last weekend. The fit is slimmer than what you might think from the model pictures, and it has a lot of nice details. Now I can’t wait for cooler weather so I can start wearing this!

Trish, I’m curious if you’ve looked at the work shirts, the ones with the collar tab. There’s a white and grey one I’ve had my eyes on for a while. What do you think of them?

EDIT: I mean, two shirts, one in white, one in grey.

Sorry for the delay Gary – which shirts are you looking at?

FWIW, I have my eye on the mini-gingham button down:

Wish they made that in a women’s cut!

Sorry, the one I’m talking about is actually called the “broken-in chino utility shirt,” shown here: http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/MensBrowse/Men_Shop_By_Category/shirts/utilityshirts/PRDOVR~95881/95881.jsp

I like that mini-gingham. In fact, I have last year’s version. Very versatile, very nice-fitting. Simple but classic.
