Floral Print Trousers

floral-print-trousers_050112

Yes, that’s right.  May florals have blossomed on dresses, tops, skirts…and now pants.  Colored pants was the big story w/r/t bottoms this spring, but now that we have that trend covered, we’re moving to another eye-catching trend that’s taking root: floral print pants.  They’re a challenging pant to wear for sure, but they’re sure to turn heads.  Wear them with a solid colored top to avoid clashing - but don’t be afraid to add a bit of texture.

Some days just feel like an uphill battle.  When you need to gear up to face a day like this, why not slip on a pair of gladiator sandals?  While they’re traditionally an aggressive looking shoe, you can give the look more polished with a sophisticated blend of sharp silhouettes and sweet accessories.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a pair of gladiator sandals.  Studs are optional, depending on how much attention you want to draw to your feet.
2. Your outfit itself should be sophisticated with an aggressive edge.  Try a colorblocked blouse paired with a knee length pair of leather shorts.

3. Finish off the look with a pair of sunny accessories to make the look more friendly - an eyecatching bundle of baubles around your neck, and a a bright yellow top handle leather tote.

April 2012 Lookbook: I Dream in Color

We’re big believers that style and comfort aren’t mutually exclusive.  And as the pajama top has emerged from loungewear to daywear, we’re psyched to be able to wear it all day long.  The trick to getting the look right is to pair your pajamas with sophisticated daywear separates.  The idea is to elevate the pajama top into your day wardrobe; you don’t want to look like you accidentally left the house in your PJs.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a sophisticated foundation: a simple striped shell paired with a floaty chiffon skirt.
2. The dream of wearing your PJs outside has finally come true - slip on your silk pajama top for a cozy layered look.
3. The pajama top adds playfulness to the look, so build on this sense of fun with accessories in bright colors: stacked bangles, a colorblocked clutch, and a pair of sandals accented in a bright yellow.  Finish off the look with a fedora hat to block the sun - and to add drama to the outfit.

April 2012 Lookbook: Flirty Florals

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: Flirty Florals
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Spring/Summer 2012’s florals are no wallflowers - their very presence imbues vibrancy into your look.  What to wear with these bright florals?  Solids in either bright or neutral tones are a safe bet - but we encourage you, if you dare, to pair pattern with pattern.  We married these vibrant florals with a pair of girly polka dotted pieces for a look that’s fresh and flirty.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with your foundation of polka dots.  We matched a flouncy navy miniskirt with a sleeveless blouse with a scalloped peter pan collar for a playful look.
2. Juxtaposed against the spotted foundation, the floral motorcycle jacket takes center stage, adding a punch of pattern and color.

3. Finish off the look with statement accessories - a pair of red sunglasses that echoes the red top-handle bag, and a pair of wedge heels featuring a lacy cutout detail.

April 2012 Lookbook: Urban Playground

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: Urban Playground
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

We’re dreaming of the carefree days of childhood - of playground games, of laughter and fun, of adventure in the ordinary.  But even if your spring days are destined to be spent in a metropolis, you need not lose the playfulness in your style. For the urban playground, keep the simple silhouettes - updating them with more sophisticated fabrics, patterns, and colors.  Also keep your sense of serendipity and wonder - which will help you navigate the urban playground just as well as you ruled the neighborhood playground way back when.

1. Start with a chic but comfortable foundation: an oversized cropped tee paired with a buttery pair of knee length leather shorts.  The cropped tee works with the high rise on the short and calls attention to the leg-lengthening silhouette.
2. Enough black and white with this foundation - it’s time to add color!  Toss on a cardigan in a bright yellow to offset the black and white of the tee and shorts.  Bonus points for toting around a handbag in a complementary bright color - notice how the turquoise bag adds an extra dimension to the yellow, black, and white of the look.
3. Finish off the look with accessories with an edge - a pair of studded gladiator sandals, a leather wrap bracelet with a skull motif, and a retro chic pair of sunglasses.

April 2012 Lookbook: How to Wear Tie-Dye

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: How to Wear Tie-Dye
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Quintessentially laid-back in style, tie-dye doesn’t have to echo back to its bohemian roots in 1960s and 1970s music culture.  You can take the hippie style out of tie-dye by pairing it with clean shapes and sharp accessories.  The resulting look is a sophisticated blend of downtown chic - here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a tie-dye short paired with a relaxed fit t-shirt.  Notice how the grey of the shirt doesn’t compete with the striking print on the tie-dye short.
2. Slip on a biker jacket to give the look a harder edge.
3. Finish off the look with a pair of gladiator sandals and aviator glasses.  And as a nod to tie-dye’s bohemian past, add a fringed handbag - in a sophisticated jet-black, of course.

April 2012 Lookbook: April in Paris

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: April in Paris
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Parisian style is joyful, flirty, and fun.  Luckily, you don’t have to live in Paris to get the je ne sais quoi of French style.  All you have to do is to have a little bit of fun with your look.  It’s that little wink that really makes the difference - here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with the quintessentially Parisian top - a navy and white bateau top featuring horizontal stripes. Extra bonus?  The red heart detail that makes this top shine.
2. Add simple pops of color - a pair of bright green shorts and a sunny yellow sweater.  Why do these colors work?  Yellow, green, and blue are naturally complementary colors, as they sit next to each other on the color wheel.

3. Finish off the look with cheeky accessories - a pair of black sunglasses with a red bow, a bright blue cross-body bag with metal tips, and a pair of black and tan sandals that go with whatever color you’re wearing.

April 2012 Lookbook: Get the Look of Bright Bold Florals

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: Get the Look of Bright Bold Florals
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Bright bold florals are one of the key trends in a season overflowing with print, pattern and color.  While they can be intimidating to wear, you can get the look easier than you’d think.  The trick to wearing these bright bold florals is to have them take center stage - and to build the rest of the look around the colors in the print.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a clean foundation - a prim and proper button-down blouse paired with a knee-length skirt.  What we love about this combination is how the two shades of blue look together.
2. Add the star of the look - a bright bold floral print biker jacket.  Because the base of the look was monochromatically blue, this bold floral jacket adds a pop of color without clashing.

3. Finish off the look with extra pops of color that echo the hues in the jacket - a pair of red sunglasses, sandals with a red heel, and a bright yellow purse that’s as bold as it is ladylike.

April 2012 Lookbook: Hearts for the Rain

Omiru's April 2012 Lookbook: Hearts for the Rain
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Just because the rain won’t go away doesn’t mean that your fashionable side can’t come out to play.  As April showers continue to rain down, you can brighten your day with hearts and heartwarming accessories.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a quintessentially French foundation - a striped bateau tee (bonus for this heart detail) and a drapey below-the-knee skirt.  For cold days, cover up with a protective raincoat, ideally with a padded lining for warmth.
2. It’s raining out, so grab your rainboots.  A pair of golden hunter boots adds metallic sheen - and pairs so nicely with the navy in the skirt and shirt.
3. Warm up a rainy day with playful accessories.  We love this heart scribble transparent umbrella (as well as how it implores the rain to "go away") - and a seemingly rainsplotched patterned clutch purse in pulsating reds and purples.

What do you wear when the rain just won’t go away?

April 2012 Lookbook: Sequins and Sweatpants

April 2012 Lookbook: Sequins and Sweatpants
This look is part of Omiru’s April 2012 Lookbook series, which builds upon our 16-Piece April 2012 Capsule Wardrobe.  See more information about this look.

Sequins and sweatpants sound like a combination best found on the runway rather than real life.  But different as they are, they look surprisingly natural together.  Sequins add drama and dimension to the casual sweatpant - together, they form an outfit that’s as visually stunning as it is comfortable to wear.  Here’s how to get the look:

1. Start with a pair of sweatpants.  The trick to getting the look right is to find a fitted pair of sweatpants.  Too baggy of a pant will mar the long and lean silhouette you’re looking to create.  Bonus points for a sweatpant with a cuffed tapered leg - all the better to pair with heels.
2. Add your sequins with a tank top.  Choose a cropped or just below the waist length top so as to not cover the detail at the top of your sweatpants.
3. For this tough yet casual look, add a moto jacket in a complementary color.  With a palette of metallics and black, we love the pop of lightness that comes with a white jacket.
4. No sneakers for this look - to class up your sweatpants, slip on a pair of heels.
5. Finish off the look with some edgy accessories - a cuff clutch, a geometric architectural metal ring, and a pair of angular cat-eye sunglasses.
