J Crew Fine Lambswool Marled Crewneck Sweater

marled-sweater_102710

There’s something that we love about marled sweaters - they’re fantastically textured and weighty in style, making them an attractive counterpart to both trouser pants and jeans. Pair this marled lambswool sweater with jeans and desert boots for a wonderfully textured look that’s equal parts urban and rugged.

$64.50  at J Crew.

You Said: Yes to Faux Fur

omiru-poll-result-faux-fur_102410

faux-fur-ankle-boots_102410We asked: Would you wear Faux Fur?

You said:  Yes to Faux Fur, with a 56-44 split in votes.

Style tip? Faux Fur is coming back in a big way for Fall - we’re seeing it as a textured trim on jackets and coats, on vests and gilets, and all over accessories, from scarves to shoes.  The faux fur vest is best paired with something skinny on the bottom to balance out the volume - leggings or skinny jeans, tucked into boots, work quite well.  But you don’t have to go all out to try on the faux fur - you can metaphorically and literally dip your toe into the trend with faux fur boots.  Forever 21’s version is sleek and sophisticated - and perfect to pair with tights and your LBD.

Next question: Tie-neck blouses feel like a fabulous feminine counterpart to the military styles we’re seeing for Fall.  But what about taking this one step further–would you wear a necktie?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Camo Top

Army and military styles are supremely chic for Fall 2010. We’re loving this camo print tee for its greyed out take on traditional camouflage - and for how well it pairs with straight leg and skinny jeans.

You Said: Yes to Shorts and Tights

omiru-poll-result-shorts-tights_101710

flannel-shorts-modal-rib-tights_101710We asked: Would you wear Shorts and Tights?

You said:  Yes to the combination of Shorts and Tights, with a 54-46 split in votes.

Style tip? Though shorts are traditionally summer fare, they’re inching their way into autumn wardrobes with the addition of another key piece for fall - textured tights.  As summer waned, we noticed an uptick in the  pairing of shorts and denim cutoffs.  But as we descend deeper into the autumn season, we’re advocating more seasonally appropriate fabrics for the shorts and tights combo.  We’re digging a flannel short (belted, boyfriend style, of course) with a textured tight.  Ribbed styles in dark colors tend to be flattering on those of us not blessed with lanky model legs.  For footwear, try a brogue bootie in the same color as the tights, an elegant way to visually elongate the leg.

Next question: Wherever we go, we’re seeing faux fur - on voluminous vests and jackets - and lining the hoods of army coats. But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear faux fur?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

How to Wear a Shawl Collar Cardigan Without Looking Like Grandpa

wear-shawl-collar-sweater-without-looking-like-grandpa_101110

Over the last few years, the shawl collar cardigan (aka the grandpa cardigan) has become a cold weather men’s wardrobe staple.  The marled shawl collar cardigan evokes memories of  your grandpa’s favorite oversized sweater - the one he always wore to family dinner.  Today’s grandpa cardigans are similarly cozy, but they’re cut closer to the body for a more form fitting shape.  We love pairing the knobby, textured cardigan with other distinctive textures - a rough denim or a velvety corduroy would do the trick.  Finish off the outfit with a rough and ready boot for a look that’s casually rugged.

Here’s how to get the look:

You Said: Yes to Vests

omiru-poll-result-vest_101010

woven-lace-vest-jacket_101010We asked: Would you wear Vests?

You said:  Yes to Vests, with a 78-22 split in votes.

Style tip? Our favorite thing about Fall Fashion is the focus on layering.  We love mixing silhouettes (big with small), textures (smooth with rough), and lengths (long with short).  The beauty of the vest is that it gives us an additional piece to play with - it can add a touch of color - or texture.  It can add polish and refinement to a wild outfit - or it can add a bit of drama to a look that’s more refined.  We’re enamored of the open front vest, which adds a breezily sophisticated air to more form fitting tops.  If you want to take a walk on the wild side, you can try a faux fur vest; with this piece, keep the rest of your look simple in silhouette so as to let this vest take center stage.

Next question: Shorts are traditionally warm weather fare, but they’re finding their way into autumn when paired with tights.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear shorts with tights?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!
