When in Rome, as they say, do as the Romans do.  So when in London, do as the Londoners do, and make your way to Topshop.  We made a pilgrimage to the flagship Topshop store on Oxford street and spotted some fantastic finds - from a twist button collared trench to a blouse featuring a cutout lace trim.  Here’s what we’re eyeing from Topshop this fall:

1. Flower Sequin Dress | $110 at Topshop

2. Lace Trim Back Oversized Shirt | $80 at Topshop

3. Pleat Shoulder Biker Jacket | $145 at Topshop

4. Silk Cowl Back Dress | $135 at Topshop

5. Leather Bound A-Line Skirt | $70 at Topshop

6. Twist Button Mac by Boutique | $380 at Topshop

This military inspired tunic does double duty. It pairs with casual pieces for a look that’s the epitome of relaxed, breezy chic. But it also cleans up quite nicely when paired with more sophisticated pieces, lending them an air of nonchalance.

You Said: No to Capes

omiru-poll-result-capes_100410

ultimate-military-cape_100410We asked: Would you wear Capes?

You said:  No to Capes, with a 56-44 split in votes.

Style tip? Capes (and their cousin, the capelet) are fantastically dramatic fashion perfect for keeping warm during fall and winter.  They can be an acquired taste, but it’s never been easier to look cozy and chic during the winter - all you have to do is throw on a cape.  For maximum figure flattery, we recommend pairing your cape with a skinny bottom - a pair of straight leg or skinny jeans or leggings - for a dramatic big-over-small look.  We’re loving capes with special detailing to break up the monotony of the fabric - particularly on trend is this military cape from Topshop that has been flying off the shelves.

Next question: Vests are key layering pieces for Fall, and this season, they’re appearing in all shapes and sizes - from the tailored vest to the dramatic faux fur variety. But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear a vest?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

What to Wear September 2010

what-to-wear-september_092710

This month (as we’re an inch away from October!), we’re full on ready for Fall Fashion.  We’re dreaming of pieces that will take us through the last days of Indian Summer - and will mesh beautifully into our wardrobes as the days turn to Fall.  We’re eyeing a pretty paisley dress with fluttery sleeves, juxtaposed against a fringed moto jacket (love!).  A cozy snood scarf to wear with a feminine take on lumberjack plaids.  And a ravishingly ruched camel overcoat to wear over skinny leggings or jeans.  Here’s what we’re wearing at the confluence of September and October:

1. Double Duty Cape | $248 at Anthropologie

2. Urban Renewal Flannel Ruffle Shirt | $48 at Urban Outfitters

3. Warehouse Ladder Stitch Snood | $30.33 at ASOS

4. Mango Silk Paisley Caftan Dress | $143.06 at ASOS

5. Matt Frame Retro Geeky Sunglasses | $16.85 at ASOS

6. Fringe Biker Jacket by Boutique | $370 at Topshop

7. Marled Shawl Collar Cardigan | $128 at J Crew

Morton Cape

morton-cape_092710

The beauty of the cape is its dramatic shape. The way the cape flows off of your shoulderline is simply gorgeous - especially when paired with leggings or skinny jeans for an exaggerated big-over-small look. We’re digging this herringbone wool cape, which will take us from fall through winter.

$160  at Need Supply.

What to Wear September 2010, Menswear Edition

what-to-wear-september-menswear_092710

In this fine month of September (though in all fairness, we’re a hair away from October), we doubled down on key pieces for Fall - particularly in outerwear.  We found the perfect layering parka, the All-American bomber jacket, the military inspired but not militant field jacket. Filling out the rest of your Fall wardrobe, we have a fair isle cardigan (perfect for layering over your chambray shirts), a beautiful brown pair of cords, and the key boot for fall - the brogue boot.  Here’s what you need to add to your wardrobe this month and beyond:

1. Fall Cord Martin Pants | $168 at Steven Alan

2. Levi’s College Bomber Jacket | $202.20 at ASOS

3. Salt Valley Chambray Roll Up Shirt | $48 at Urban Outfitters

4. Fine Lambswool Fair Isle Cardigan | $88 at J Crew

5. British Millerain Oilcloth Field Jacket | $198 at J Crew

Dents Leather 3 Buckle Strap Gloves

dents-leather-3-buckle-strap-gloves_092710

Now that the weather is turning cooler, there’s no more stylish way to keep your fingers warm than a sleek pair of leather gloves. What we love about this pair of gloves is the fantastic triple buckle detailing, complete with a stud-like finish on each end - ladylike gloves with a hard edge.

$67.40  at ASOS.

You Said: No to Round Sunglasses

omiru-poll-result-round-sunglasses_092710

imagine-sunglasses_092710We asked: Would you wear Round Sunglasses?

You said:  No to Round Sunglasses, with a 53-47 split in votes.

Style tip? Channeling the 1960s, round sunglasses are having their day in the sun.  Maybe it’s the Mad Men moment we’re having in fashion, or maybe it’s just the irrepressible optimism of the 1960s that we so need now, but these stunning sunglasses are a key look for Spring/Summer 2011.  They look wonderful on those with angular faces and can accommodate oval shaped faces as well.  For those of you with round faces, steer clear of the rounded sunglasses and opt for a style that’s more angular to best frame your face.

Next question: Capes are for superheroes - and for Fall 2010, they’re also for style savvy women.  They’re dramatic - but perhaps dangerously so.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear a cape?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!
