5 Lightweight Jackets for Early Spring

5-jackets-early-spring_040610

April means transition weather - the awkward space between the cool winter days and the weather we associate with spring.  You don’t want to be hauling your winter parkas around, but it’s not quite warm enough to be headed out without a jacket in tow.  What to do?  Choose a lightweight jacket to throw over your tees and button-down shirts.  Neutrals, khakis, and browns are big this season - and will pair well with the rest of your wardrobe.  But, if you’re up for it, we encourage you to try something a bit different - a chambray parka or a deep green Baracuta jacket will certainly anchor your spring wardrobe.

1. The Smooth Company Chambray Shawl Collar Parka | $200 at Urban Outfitters

2. Members Only Racer Jacket | $78 at Urban Outfitters

3. Cadet Jacket | $128 at J Crew

4. Four Pocket Cotton Jacket | $150 at Banana Republic

You Said: No to Neon Brights

omiru-poll-result-neon-brights_040410

silk-crinkle-2-sided-scarf_040410We asked: Would you wear Neon Brights?

You said:  No to Neon Brights, with a 67% to 33% vote.

Style tip? Neon brights ruled the runways for Spring, with head-turning colors and patterns.  But we hear your hesitation to wear these runway looks out in Real Life.  How to wear neon brights without looking like you’re on a runway yourself?  Try the tie-dye-eseque effect of bright watercolor prints.  These prints look gorgeous on dresses and flowy tops - but they look equally fetching on drapey scarves.  Add a dip dyed neon colored scarf to your spring wardrobe and pair it with crisp, clean whites and chambrays.

Next question: One-piece jumpers are a major style trend for Spring, but they’re not necessarily mainstream.  Of note though, is how fast they’re selling out in store.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear a one-piece jumper?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

How to Wear Spring Shorts? With a Blouse and Blazer.

how-to-wear-spring-shorts-blazer_033010

When you break out your shorts for Spring, you have a sartorial choice.  You can go casual with a sweater and tee - or you can dress up your spring shorts for a surprisingly sophisticated look.  We’re huge fans of keeping your look polished, even when you’re wearing shorts - and here’s how.  Simply pair your spring shorts with basics that fall on the more formal side of the spectrum - such as a blazer and blouse pairing.  Look how the tailored blazer and the crisp blouse add a dash of panache to your casual shorts.

The key to getting this look right?  Choose a blazer that’s similar in structure to your shorts.  Notice that the linen shorts fit a bit loose - as does the linen herringbone blazer.  And accessorize, accessorize, accessorize.  Heels befit the sophisticated blazer-shorts pairing.  The cherry on top?  A braided belt in a gorgeous shade of brown, tied on the waist.

1. Linen Herringbone Blazer | $27.80 at Love 21

2. Cotton Silk Popover Shirt | $59.50 at Martin + Osa

3. Pleat Shorts | $60 at Topshop

4. Double Braid Belt | $29.50 at American Eagle

5. Dream Suedette Pump | $25.80 at Forever 21

You Said: Yes to Liberty Prints

omiru-poll-result-liberty-prints_032810

liberty-london-target-billboard-bag_032810We asked: Would you wear Liberty Prints?

You said:  Yes to Liberty Prints, with a 62% to 38% vote.

Style tip? Liberty Prints, the effervescent prints popularized by Liberty of London, are extending far past the British Isles this season.  These garden party florals make a statement, so make sure that they’re the centerpiece of your outfit.  Wear them on classic shapes and simple silhouettes, and unless you’re feeling daring, pair them with solids instead of other patterns.  Where to buy Liberty Prints stateside?  Look no further than cheap chic emporium Target for their Liberty of London collection.

Next question: Neon Brights lit up the Spring 2010 runways.  Eye-catching and energizing, they could just be the antidote to Spring’s pastel peaches and pinks.  But what do you think?  Tell us, would you wear neon brights?  Cast your vote on the sidebar!

Trend Alert: Peaches and Pinks

peaches-and-pink_032410

After months of hard edges, military boots, and black, black, and more black, we have frothy, light as air pastels for spring.  So now that the air is warming up, you can easily trade in your rocker chic blacks for something a bit more feminine.  These springy peaches and pinks come with pretty embellishments - sequins, pleats, ruffles, and gorgeous draping.  But if you’re not ready to give up the hard edge completely, you can always combine the best of both worlds with a studded peach handbag.
